This is a photo I shot with an open shutter - long exposure while I moved the camera of some lights on a foyer in front of a building on Sansome Street just south of Broadway in the Barbary Coast neighborhood of San Francisco. I move the camera like a painter moves his paint brush.
Shortly after I took this photo I entered the photo into a photo contest here in San Francisco and was one of the winners! The winning photos were shown in a clothing store boutique right in the same neighborhood as where I shot the photo. I decided to print the image on silk and sewed the top of the image into a loop so it would fit through a dowel and hung the printed silk like a tapestry.
After the show was over I gave the silk print to a young designer who made a dress with the image. I gave her a few more of my prints, including this one printed on stretchy material and she made a small collection of dresses and we showed the dresses at a fashion show at a bar on Mission Street in San Francisco. The young model wearing the dress with this print loved the dress and I was HOOKED on making textile prints with my imagery.
Below is a photo of the young designer wearing the dress she had made with my original print on silk, then another dress she made with this print on stretchy material, and the last one is a bodycon dress I designed and made for my first collection.
